Horse In the Spotlight!

For the month of may we would like to put a special horse in the spotlight! Buck is a 15yr old gelding, who appears to be some sort of Lusitano cross. Buck is completely broke (still needs a bit of a tune up) but loves trails! He is a stunning buckskin, and once he puts that muscle on will fill out to be the biggest eye catcher in Washington. Buck has an amazing tempermant and knows when to be gentle with children and females. He has a tendency to shy away from men, but don't let that stop you! Buck is a sucker for treats and would love to come home and be your new best friend. His adoption fee is $800 so please call or contact us if interested!!!!

Pennies for Ponies Annual Campaign
We are kicking off our annual fund drive this year at our Memorial Extravaganza. This is our major fundraiser for the year it will start May 25, 2013 and conclude June 15, 2013. Our goal this year is to raise $6,000 dollars that will pay for this years geldings, put up shelters, fix fences, and give us a start on this winters hay. We are also looking into purchasing an alternative feed system to grow fodder so the horses can have green fresh food all year long at a fraction of the cost of hay.
Look for our donation jars at stores around town and as always you can send your tax deductible donation through the mail or we can even take credit cards through paypal. Our goal is 1/6 of the money that was used last year to feed and care for the horses, please help us continue to help and care for these wonderful animals.

Our Story
On August 1, 2009 we received a text from a horse owner we had previously visited looking for a horse for our daughter. The text stated she had moved and asked us if we could go out to her property because one of the horses was caught in the fence. Since we had already taken four horses that were in poor condition from this
woman we didn’t hesitate to go. When we arrived we found Tumble, pictured above, wrapped in the fence and struggling for her life. We decided to load up the 3 neglected horses from this property that had been left behind and Rough Start Horse Rescue was established.
Our Mission-
- To help, protect,provide care, and find loving forever homes through adoption for horses of all breeds in need.
- To educate the public on acts of neglect and abuse, and how to prevent it
- To speak out against irresponsible and excessive breeding of these animals.
- To provide horse related therapies and events to our nations heroes and their families at no charge.
-To help all animals in need by way of direct service or through association with othe rescues.
